Twelve Days of Apps: Hideout (day 9)

A catchy soundtrack and word-building action reminiscent of old-school Electric Company make this FREE app from BYU one of my favorites to recommend.

Developer: Brigham Young Unviersity
Pricing: Free
Platform: iOS (Apple)
Summary: Using rhyming word families to create mini-games, this game packs a lot of literacy education content into a fun package. The acapella soundtrack (which I LOVE) was recorded and mixed by the app's developer himself and is so catchy that my son was singing along with it after only a few plays through the app. They're continually adding new word sets (when the app was first published, there were only three) making this one of the most value-packed free apps I've discovered on the market.
If you like this, try: the Best of Electric Company DVD's (they're retro-chic!).
